X-Men: Days of Future Past: Movie Review

Thank you, Bryan Singer, for saving the X-Men movie franchise.

Ang Buod:

Since I don’t want to spoil this movie too much for y’all, I’ll give you a very simple summary. The movie is set way into the future. As the trailer shows, this future is pretty bleak for humans and mutants alike. Forget the weird mutant gene drug or the theoretically tragic political mutant annihilation plots from the previous movies in this franchise. Our heroes face seemingly unbeatable and indestructible enemies, the Sentinels.

These robots have the ability to change and “mutate” into machines that are immune to the powers of the particular mutant they’re facing. Plus, they also turn into machines that fire whatever the mutant is especially susceptible to. Think of it as a giant, laser-resistant, Kryptonite monster for Superman.

As a last ditch effort to survive, the surviving mutants, led by the Professor X-Magneto terrific tandem, send Wolverine’s consciousness back in time. This way, the older (and wiser?) Logan can be in the body of the 1973 Logan and keep Mystique from sending the snowball down the hill.

This time-travel plot line lets us see our favorite mutants together on the big screen and made for a lot of happy fans.

I’m switching this review’s format up because I want to keep it as spoiler-free as possible for the poor, pathetic, humans who haven’t seen it yet kaya didiretso na ako dito. I’ll have more of my honest opinions later in the post pero you’d have to hit the genius Read More tag to see them, ok?

I think you should go see this movie. It’s definitely one of the best movies this year. I know that may not mean a lot because we’ve had very few remarkable movies this year (with Thor: The Dark World being a little disappointing and with The Amazing Spiderman 2 just a little better than it’s pretty bad predecessor), pero it’s still worth the full price.

If you saw the other X-Men movies, especially the accursed X3: The Last Stand and all the ridiculously horrible Wolverine movies, you HAVE to see this movie. It’s the only way to alleviate the pain caused by Cyclops’ worthless death and all the other bad parts of the movie franchise. Give Bryan Singer a chance to undo the damage done to your childhood heroes.

The movie had really great action scenes, which were a bit long for me, but just right for all those action junkies out there. The reason why I enjoyed them was because they were very dynamic. It wasn’t just punching and hitting people. They were very creative in their fight choreography. I appreciate that. If you don’t know what I mean, you need to see that one scene with Quicksilver having fun with his powers. If that doesn’t blow your mind, I don’t know what will.

The actors also did a really good job portraying these complicated and multi-layered characters. That was what was missing from the other X-Men movies. All of the characters were just grey, emotional, and pouty, but this emo energy didn’t have depth. They were obviously upset, but I didn’t know and didn’t care about it. If you need proof, I have three words for you: Rogue and Cyclops.

Now, onto the spoiler-ridden part of this review.
